Steve Foushee got his start in the petroleum industry working for Atlanta based Research Fuels, Inc. managing a gas station on Freedom Drive in Charlotte, NC while working on his degree at the University of NC at Charlotte. After graduation, Steve continued his career working with Oasis Petroleum out of Culver City California. Steve supervised 18 high volume retail outlets in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and Florida. The decision to move to wholesale operations came with an opportunity to work with Baltimore based Crown Central Petroleum in 1980. Steve managed wholesale operations for Crown from 1980 through 1985 managing two company operated Crown terminals and the exchange network through Southeast terminals located in Tennessee and Georgia. He met and married his wife Karen in 1983. Karen had a dream of becoming a Doctor which necessitated a move to Augusta, Georgia to attend medical school. Having difficulty finding work in Augusta, Steve decided to take a chance at forming his own wholesale company. With the help and support of many people, Somco, Inc. was founded in November of 1986. Today, Somco, Inc. works with large grocery store chains, trucking companies, truck stops, oil jobbers, municipalities, convenience store operators and aviation accounts. Our objective is to seek out quality supply deals and deliver exceptional service to companies looking for every opportunity to remain competitive. Southern Oil Transport, LLC was created in May of 2000 to help achieve those same objectives.
